About Me
¡Hola! My name is Maddison and I am a recent graduate with a degree in Communications (Major in Journalism) and an itch to use it!
I have a passion for sharing stories. I believe that once we learn the history and past of the people and places around us, we can begin to understand why the world has formed into the way it is in the present, and from there, initiate the change we would like to see for the future.
I have a specific fascination with Indigenous Affairs and environmental issues, and will always seek to find the voices that are often unheard.
In my spare time, I am learning Spanish, take swing dancing lessons, and am not ashamed to admit that I also enjoy knitting on Saturday nights.
Work Experience
2017- TODAY
Currently, I am working as a Customer Service Representative at OVO Mobile. While not the journalism job of my dreams, I am extremely grateful to have had a steady job throughout my studies, and one that continues to support me on my turbulent journey into my future career.
Customer service has also helped further develop my communication skills, charisma, and patience- all important skills for a budding journalist!
SEPTEMBER 2018
I was given the opportunity to obtain some work experience at Southern Cross Austereo in September of 2018 as an intern. I shadowed the news team for 2Day FM and MMM, and was even given the opportunity to practice writing and news reading! I loved the fast-paced environment of radio broadcasting, and was fascinated to discover each aspect of the production process.
MARCH - JUNE 2018
Working as an intern at Central News was an excellent introduction to the world of online publication! The fast deadlines and turn arounds were thrilling, and this opportunity also enhanced my interviewing skills as I was fortunate to speak with many fascinating characters. I also accomplished my first published article during this internship!
